Cape Overberg Golf

A short drive south-east of Cape Town and the Winelands and you are in the breathtaking Cape Overberg golf region of the Western Cape. Overberg is an old Afrikaans word that literally means “over the mountain”. As one traverses the Hottentots-Holland Mountains via Sir Lowry’s Pass one discovers a region that attracts thousands of visitors each year to its sandy beaches, forests, mountains, orchards, fields and, of course, golf courses.

The Overberg stretches from the Hottentots-Holland Mountains in the west, to the historic town of Swellendam in the east. From the picturesque coastline in the south to the Riviersonderend Mountains in the north. The area is perhaps most famous for being the best land based whale watching location in the world, with the Southern Right and the Bryde’s whales calving just off shore annually (between June and November). Be sure to visit the towns of Hermanus, Gansbaai and Cape Agulhas for a closeup view of these gentle giants.

The Overberg provides an excellent offering for golf travellers, with a first-class road network, countless hotels and guesthouses and a selection championship golf courses to choose from, all of which are open throughout the year.

When visiting the Cape Overberg, we highly recommend ticking off all of the following from your “must do” list:

  • Golf at the challenging Arabella and Hermanus courses.
  • Whale watching in Hermanus (June – November).
  • Visit the southern most tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas.
  • Wine tasting on the famous Hermanus Wine Route.
  • Sightseeing, especailly Swellendam’s historic landmarks

Visit Cape Town and discover the Cape Overberg region on an unforgettable African golfing adventure.
